That Andy is a dick!

I mean the one over in the comments at SayUncle:

Typical OC’er. Poorly dressed, inked up, shaved head, let me guess a goatee too, pathetic serpa holster, and other shit clinging to his belt and pockets. This, this guy is the image of gun owners.
Good help us.
And the "meaningful dialog" goes on from there. For the record, that ain't me. While I think it is helpful  to dress smartly while OC'ing, I certainly wouldn't criticize anybody for simply dressing in their everyday garb while doing it.

I also disagree with the notion that OC'ers are all looking for a confrontation. As the SayUncle post proves, the guy was at his day job as a construction worker. I've OC'ed many times, mostly when it was simply more convenient, such as the time I did it for Halloween:

That's a Colt Walker on my hip.

Now the "trailerhood" snark... that was funny.

  1. This is what I don't understand about those that oppose OC -- we are supposed to normalize OC but do it only according to a very narrow window of correctness that most people simply don't fit.

I'm tired of the 'every OC'er is an ambassador' idea. Nope, every OC'er is a person who is simply exercising a right. There are nice people and not so nice people. There are extroverts and introverts.

When we as a 'gun community' slam someone who doesn't fit the mold, don't we risk alienating others who don't fit the "khaki/polo/clean shaven/politely handing out flyers-cleaning the highway" image?

How about we simply look at someone who is Openly Carrying and say "Does his/her personality or looks change the fact (s)he has a right to carry? Nope. Not a bit" I think that conversation would go over better with the non-gun owner because we can relate to not fitting in.

  2. I like the "trailerhood" bit, personally. But then I also tend to think that many if not most people who OC do it for the attention. Sue me.

  3. I think we do ourselves a disservice by not recognizing that some people do use OC as a manner of protest. YouTube is full of those encounters. But its their right to do so.

As for those seeking attention in a non-political protest way... such as they do it as a "hey look at me" type thing instead of wearing an earring or a mohawk or whatever. Those people might exist, but I've never met any. The blogs and forums about OC as EDC always seem to be filled with posts about "I hope nobody says anything." which seems to be the opposite of an attention-seeking attitude.

I know when I've done it because I either had to or because it was much more convenient, my hope was nobody would notice... which is actually my experience... almost nobody notices.

  4. Thought it wasn't you, Bro. But as I posted at Unc's, the "Trailerhood" remark went beyond Snark into Personal Insult, since I know the "Lady in Question" very well. Trust me, living about 5 miles from Breda, I WISH I could afford to live in her neighborhood. And there's no way she's "White Trash."

As to the guy in the picture, any notice that he was "Color Co-ordinated" in his clothing? Something tells me that he was dressed according to his company's Dress Code. And I bet you he has to repair a lot of broken windows in High Crime areas, thus the OC. Sometimes, one has to tell the local Goblins in no uncertain terms that they should look elsewhere.

  5. One more nail in the coffin of 'cooperation' between the OC and non-OC groups... sigh

  6. NFO - I don't really understand why people make a fuss over some of this stuff.

Les - Yes, it was a personal insult but Breda held her own. I think everybody knows she's not white trash.

  7. I gotta admit, I wondered if that was you...Ha Ha

Hell, you know I O.C. all the time. MY primary reason is comfort. That IWB stuff digs into my muffin top.

And no one around here really cares, prolly a different story up in your neck of the woods.

    1. I've heard Breda can shoot the balls off a gnat at 200 yards, so I'm not stupid enough to tell her to go back to the "trailerhood" (as funny as that term maybe).
