'Plaxico Burress' punishment doesn't fit the crime'

So says LaVar Arrington, former teammate, in the Washington Post. And you know what, I agree. Two years in prison seems pretty stiff for a non-criminal who was only carrying to protect himself. What he did was stupid, but if New York's gun laws were close to sane Plax may have attempted to get a permit and learned that he should have had a proper holster... and also, with modern firearms, its better to let them fall and hit the floor than grab for them only to accidentally squeeze the trigger.

So the lesson here is that if you want to legally protect yourself in New York City by carrying a firearm, you need to be rabid anti-gun Senator Chuck Schumer, who has a permit to carry.
